Sometimes you just don’t know what to do with it all. Bellingham’s constant cycle of events, beer and food is just mouth watering. But Aslan Depot has really upped the game these next few days.
Aslan Brewing opened Aslan Depot a year ago and now you’ll have an opportunity to celebrate it this weekend with the 1st Anniversary Celebration of Aslan Depot. The Depot has spent the last year churning through Frank and his team’s devilishly diverse mixed fermentation offerings. Not to mention, Boe Trosset’s insanely good taste in beer sourced from around the world to fill various taps. Thanks to that combination, The Depot has one of the more impressive tap lists every week. But this is exactly what they wanted.
“In the world of beer, arguably the most exciting part is the mixed-fermentation, or the barrel-aging. It’s the bigger picture of these things that take time. That’s where all the romance of brewing is,” Jack Lamb said. The Depot has become a beautiful counterpart to Aslan’s flagship location, just a block away and they’ve evolved the space in the past year. Food can occasionally be found in the Depot’s beer garden with a satisfying diversity of trucks, ranging from up and coming trucks to, my favorite, the occasional showcase of the lobster roll pop-up! We hope to see that again soon!
Aslan thought they’d one up themselves this week. Why not celebrate one year of Depot by jamming two insane parties into a three day span? I mean, why not?! Tomorrow the Aslan team has teamed up with Bellingham’s culinary giants, Ciao Thyme. I used to work for Ciao Thyme eons ago and they still take my breath away with every event. The Aslan team has teamed worked closely with Jessica and Mataio to develop a 5 course winter dinner featuring select beers from their famed barreling program. Head brewer, Frank Trosset, will be present to discuss the creation of each beer. Buy tickets here.
The week’s events culminate with the Depot’s 1 year anniversary celebration this Saturday starting at 12noon. There will be a vertical tasting of Frances Farmer 2016, 2017, 2018. Also keep your eyes out for Justice Temple, Study of Dreams, 3rd Order (I love this one!), Blueberry Dojo, Space Eagle. This is all capped off with the release of Whiskey Ginger Imperial Rye Barleywine! Ovn Pizza will be set up starting at 2pm with live music from Trio Sueno and Leaning trees.
Aslan has been a whirlwind of production this past year, including the amazing recent news they’ll be opening a taproom in Seattle this summer! Bellingham, Aslan Depot celebrates one year, and we look forward to celebrating with you! See you there.
