Chuckanut Brewery is absolutely on fire these days. Their mastery of the lager world is ever more apparent in 2017, with 15 medals between the North American Beer Awards and the Washington Beer Awards, including Large Brewery of the year at the WABA.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a brewery lover as opposed to a beer nerd. I’m drawn to the culture craft beer has created and I’m surrounded by a depth of knowledge that will continue to inform and teach me. In that vein, I reached out to my friend and Chuckanut brewer, Steve DeMoney, for a tour of Chuckanut Brewery to learn more about their process and what makes Chuckanut so badass.

Steve DeMoney, Chuckanut Brewer

Steve was kind enough to answer my questions. I didn’t tell him I was going to record the tour until I got there, but after hearing a bit of what he was telling me, I decided to turn on the recorder with his OK, so I could share what I learned. Steve answered my 101 brewing questions with aplomb and I want to thank him for putting himself out there at the last minute. I learned a lot!

Here’s the full walk through of Chuckanut Brewing, that starts mid conversation in the grain room of their North Nut location in Bellingham, WA.
