Maybe they’re moving into craft beer exclusively? They just picked up St. Archer’s Brewery out of California and within the same week announced the closing of on of their North Carolina brewery that brewed up the likes of Blue Moon seasonals, Miller Lite, Miller High Life and Coors Light.

The brewery employs 520 people, but layoffs won’t start until 2016. The company said that it expects continued volume decline over each of the next few years.

As a result of declining volume, MillerCoors breweries are operating at an increasingly inefficient capacity. While MillerCoors is taking steps to strengthen its overall portfolio to drive long-term growth in volume and share, continued volume declines are expected each of the next few years.

Many larger breweries are taking steps to “strenghten their portfolios” with the purchase of craft breweries and we expect to see more acquisitions before the end of the year.
